Kitchen Equipment You’ll Need
Large mixing bowl
Rimmed sheet pan
Parchment paper or aluminum foil
Measuring cups and spoons
Spatula or spoon
Tips for Success
Avoid overmixing the meat to keep it tender. Line your pan with parchment or foil to prevent sticking and make cleanup simple. Press the meat mixture evenly onto the pan for uniform cooking. Add more ketchup on top halfway through baking for an extra layer of glaze.
Ingredients
2 pounds ground beef
1 cup plain breadcrumbs
2 large eggs
1 packet dry onion soup mix
1/2 cup ketchup, plus more for topping
Directions
Preheat oven to 400°F. Line a rimmed sheet pan with parchment paper or foil. In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, eggs, onion soup mix, and 1/2 cup ketchup. Mix with hands or a spoon until just combined—do not overwork. Press the mixture evenly onto the sheet pan in a rectangular shape about 1½ inches thick. Spread a layer of ketchup on top. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes or until internal temperature reaches 160°F. Let rest 5 minutes before slicing.
Additional Tips or Variations
Try swapping ground beef for turkey or a beef-pork mix for a different flavor. Add a dash of Worcestershire sauce or garlic powder for more depth. For a sweet and tangy glaze, mix ketchup with a bit of brown sugar and mustard before spreading on top. Serve with mashed potatoes or roasted veggies for a complete meal.
