Baked Creamy Mushroom Beef

This dish is perfect for making ahead since it reheats beautifully, and it only requires basic ingredients you likely already have in your kitchen. Whether served on its own or with a simple salad on the side, it’s guaranteed to be a comforting, crowd-pleasing favorite.

Ingredients
500g ground beef
4 medium potatoes, thinly sliced
1 small onion, chopped
2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
1 cup milk
1/2 cup heavy cream
2 tablespoons butter
1 tablespoon flour
1 teaspoon garlic powder
Salt and black pepper to taste
1 teaspoon paprika (optional)
Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions
Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef and chopped onion until the beef is browned. Drain excess fat if needed. Season with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
In the same pan, melt the butter, then stir in the flour and cook for about 1 minute.
Gradually add the milk and cream, stirring constantly until the sauce thickens. Add a handful of cheese and stir until melted.
Grease a baking dish and start layering: add a layer of sliced potatoes, then a layer of the beef mixture, followed by some cheese sauce. Repeat the layers until all ingredients are used.
Finish with a generous layer of shredded cheese on top.
Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
Remove the foil and bake for another 15 to 20 minutes until the top is golden and the potatoes are tender.
Let it rest for a few minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.
