BANANA PUDDING FROM SCRATCH

Print Friendly and PDF

It’s a simple, from-scratch dessert that often leaves me speechless: homemade vanilla pudding layered with vanilla wafer cookies and banana slices and topped with a cloud of meringue. Some like it warm. Others prefer it like I do: nice and cold. The hardest part is waiting for it to fully chill.

Because my husband and Little Miss H. both prefer the “real” scratch-made old-fashioned kind. Complete with creamy homemade-from-scratch vanilla pudding blanketing the sliced bananas, and gently toasted meringue topping instead of whipped cream.

There were layers of vanilla wafer cookies, sliced bananas and real vanilla pudding.

It was topped off with a cloud of heavenly meringue. As I was licking my fingers, I knew I had to recreate this masterpiece at home.

This classic dessert is amazing all year long, but it’s especially fitting for summer since it is (nearly) no-bake!

Turned out perfect the first time! Nice thick pudding and very simple to make. Had a craving and had everything on hand. We topped it with homemade stabilized whipped cream (cream cheese, heavy cream, vanilla and sugar). It was perfect and will be added to our tried and true notebook.

This banana pudding recipe is about as much of a comfort food in the South as it is a dessert. One that everyone always looks forward to digging into to get the perfect ratio of vanilla wafers, pudding, and bananas.

This is a recipe that’s been handed down from my grandmother. My whole family loves it and we all grew up on it! Hope you enjoy it!

I love LOVE this recipe. Its delicious. The only thing I do different is use just the egg yolks and I cook on medium heat until pudding thickens. I’ve made this for cook outs and its always a hit! I took the picture of this recipe too. Sooooo good!

Delicious!! Just like my Grandmother’s! I use the ingredients exactly as stated. If your pudding is runny, you need to cook it longer. If your pudding is really runny when you remove it from the pan, it will also be runny when you serve it. You will know when you see the change in constitency of your pudding that it’s ready to take off the heat. Enjoy, this is a GREAT recipe!!
