Caramel Apple Puff Pastry


Ingredients:
• 1 sheet puff pastry (thawed)
• 2 medium apples (Honeycrisp or Granny Smith), peeled and sliced
• 2 tablespoons butter
• 1/4 cup brown sugar
• 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
• 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
• 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
• 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
• 2 teaspoons lemon juice
• 1/3 cup caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)
• 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
• Optional: coarse sugar for dusting, nuts, or confectioner’s sugar for garnish


Instructions:
Step 1: Prepare the Apple Filling
1. Melt butter in a skillet over medium heat.
2. Add apple slices, brown sugar, granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla extract, and lemon juice.
3. Cook for 8–10 minutes until apples are tender and caramelized. Remove from heat and let cool.
Step 2: Roll Out the Puff Pastry
1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
2. Roll out the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface into a rectangle (approx. 10 x 12 inches).
3. Cut into 6–9 squares or rectangles.
Step 3: Assemble the Pastries
1. Spoon the apple filling onto the center of each square, leaving a small border around the edges.
2. Drizzle caramel sauce over the apples.
3. Fold the pastry over to form triangles or rectangles and seal edges with a fork.
Step 4: Brush and Bake
1. Brush pastries with beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse sugar if desired.
2. Place on a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake for 20–25 minutes until golden brown.
Step 5: Serve
Cool slightly before serving. Drizzle with more caramel sauce and garnish with nuts or powdered sugar if desired. Enjoy warm!
