Ingredients:
- 1 pound button or cremini mushrooms, cleaned and sliced
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup buttermilk (or 1 cup milk mixed with 1 tablespoon lemon juice)
- 2 eggs
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon salt
- Vegetable oil for frying
Instructions:
- Clean the mushrooms with a damp paper towel and slice them into even pieces.
- Set up your breading station with three shallow bowls:

- Bowl 2: Whisk together buttermilk and eggs
- Bowl 3: Additional flour for the final coating
- Heat oil in a deep skillet or pot to 350°F (175°C). The oil should be about 2 inches deep.
- Dredge each mushroom slice in the seasoned flour (Bowl 1), then dip in the buttermilk mixture (Bowl 2), and finally coat with the plain flour (Bowl 3).
- Carefully place the breaded mushrooms in the hot oil, working in batches to avoid overcrowding.
- Fry for 2-3 minutes per side until golden brown and crispy.
- Remove with a slotted spoon and place on paper towels to drain excess oil.
- Season with additional salt while still hot if desired.
Serving Suggestions: Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce such as:

Tips:
- Make sure mushrooms are dry before coating to ensure crispiness
- Maintain oil temperature between 350-375°F for best results
- Don’t overcrowd the pan while frying
- You can add different seasonings to the flour mixture for variety
