Kitchen Equipment You’ll Need
9×13-inch baking dish
Mixing bowl
Small saucepan
Measuring cups and spoons
Knife and cutting board
Peeler (if peeling apples)
Spoon or spatula
Tips for Success
Use tart apples like Granny Smith for the best flavor contrast. Don’t skip the soda—it helps create that gooey sauce around the dumplings. Peel the apples for a smoother texture. Let the dumplings rest for a few minutes after baking so the sauce thickens slightly before serving.
Ingredients
2 apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled and sliced into 8 wedges
2 cans crescent roll dough
1 cup unsalted butter
1 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
3/4 cup lemon-lime soda (such as Sprite or 7UP)
Directions
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish. Unroll crescent dough and separate into triangles. Wrap one triangle around each apple wedge, starting at the wide end and rolling to the point. Place the wrapped apples seam side down in the baking dish. In a small saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla until combined. Pour the mixture evenly over the dumplings. Pour the soda around the edges of the pan, not directly over the top. Bake for 35 to 40 minutes or until golden brown and bubbling. Let cool slightly before serving.
Additional Tips or Variations
Add a pinch of nutmeg or cloves to the cinnamon mixture for extra spice. Try using pears or peaches instead of apples for a twist. Sprinkle chopped pecans or walnuts over the top before baking for added crunch. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream for a classic finish.
