How to Clean a Glass Shower the Easy Way

Discover the secrets to cleaning your glass shower effortlessly with these easy-to-follow tips and recommended products. Say goodbye to hours of scrubbing and hello to a sparkling, pristine shower!
Cleaning a glass shower might not sound like the most exciting topic, but if you’ve ever struggled to remove stubborn mold or hard water spots, you understand the importance of finding effective cleaning methods. With the right guidance and tools, you can transform this tedious chore into a simple and quick process.
I used to dread cleaning the shower—it was my least favorite household task. However, when we moved into our current house, I realized I needed to step up my game. Luckily, the previous owners had taken great care of the glass shower, sparing me from dealing with years of built-up stains and soap scum. Nevertheless, I recognized the need for regular maintenance to keep the shower in top condition.
Here are the straightforward steps I follow daily and weekly to maintain a beautiful glass shower, free from streaks, hard water stains, soap scum, and mold.
Step 1: Use a squeegee daily
Minimize the effort required to clean your glass shower by using a squeegee daily. After each shower, spend just one minute removing excess water from the glass surfaces. This simple step prevents water from drying on the glass, making future cleaning much easier. You can find a squeegee at any major retailer or order one online for added convenience.
Step 2: Keep the shower door open and run the fan
After each shower, leave the shower door open and run the bathroom fan. This practice helps reduce the moisture levels in the shower, minimizing the growth of mold and simplifying the cleaning process. If the fan is noisy, you can run it once you’re out of the bathroom. However, if the noise doesn’t bother you, feel free to let it run while you shower or immediately after.
Step 3: Spray a no-scrub shower cleaner daily
To prevent mold growth on the tile and simplify the overall cleaning process, use a no-scrub shower spray daily. These sprays are available at most stores, such as Target. After you finish getting ready and are about to close the shower door, give the bottom of the shower a quick spray. This step is especially important if you have pets that may be curious about the wet surface. Adjust the frequency based on your needs.
Step 4: Clean the inside of the shower with a Dawn and vinegar mix weekly
For an easy and effective cleaning routine, try using a mixture of Dawn dish soap and vinegar. This powerful combination eliminates the need for scrubbing and transforms a dreaded chore into a breeze. Fill a spray bottle with equal parts Dawn and vinegar and apply the solution to the entire shower. Let it sit for a few minutes, then rinse with the handheld shower head. To avoid any water leaks, place towels on the bathroom floor beforehand.
Step 5: Clean the outside of the shower with Windex weekly
For the exterior of the shower, regular Windex works wonders without leaving streaks. If you prefer natural alternatives, there are plenty of options available. A quick search for “natural glass shower cleaner” on Pinterest will provide you with various ideas. While I’m committed to using natural cleaning products whenever possible, I continue to use Windex until I finish my current supply.
In case mold growth occurs, I highly recommend RMR-86 Instant Mold Stain & Mildew Stain Remover. This product is incredibly effective and has no equal in removing mold. Simply spray it on, run the bathroom fan for about 10 minutes, and then rinse thoroughly.
Initially, it may seem like a lot of steps. However, once you establish a routine, you’ll find that the daily tasks take under two minutes, and the weekly tasks require less than 10 minutes of your time. Say goodbye to the hassle of cleaning your glass shower and embrace a simple, effortless process!
