  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 envelope (2 1/4 teaspoons) instant yeast
  • 1 egg

For the Cinnamon-Sugar Filling:

  • 1/4 cup granulated white sugar
  • 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup butter, softened

For the Cream Cheese Frosting:

  • 4 ounces (1/2 cup) cream cheese, softened
  • 3 tablespoons butter, softened
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1-2 tablespoons milk (if needed)

Instructions:

Make the Dough:

  1. Combine Wet Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the warm milk, softened butter, egg, and vanilla extract.
  2. Add Dry Ingredients: Add the flour, sugar, salt, and yeast. Mix until a dough forms.
  3. Knead: Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes, or until smooth and elastic.
  4. First Rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 30 minutes, or until doubled in size.

Prepare the Filling:

  1. Combine Ingredients: In a small bowl, combine the granulated sugar, brown sugar, and cinnamon.
  2. Cream Butter: Cream the softened butter until smooth.
  3. Mix Filling: Combine the butter and sugar-cinnamon mixture.

Assemble and Bake:

  1. Roll Out Dough: Roll the dough out into a 12×15-inch rectangle.
  2. Spread Filling: Spread the cinnamon-sugar filling over the dough.
  3. Roll Up: Roll up the dough tightly, starting from the long side.
  4. Slice: Cut the roll into 12 equal slices.
  5. Place in Pan: Place the slices in a greased 9×13 inch baking pan.
  6. Second Rise: Cover and let rise for 15-20 minutes.
  7. Bake: Bake in a preheated 375°F (190°C) oven for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.

Make the Frosting:

  1. Cream Ingredients: In a medium bowl, cream together the softened cream cheese and butter until smooth.
  2. Add Sweeteners and Flavoring: Beat in the vanilla extract and powdered sugar, one cup at a time, until light and fluffy.
  3. Add Milk: Add milk, 1 tablespoon at a time, if needed, to reach desired consistency.

Frost and Serve:

  1. Frost: Once the cinnamon rolls have cooled slightly, frost with the cream cheese frosting.
  2. Serve: Serve warm or at room temperature.

Tips:

  • For a richer flavor, use a higher fat milk, such as whole milk.
  • If you don’t have instant yeast, you can use regular yeast, but it will take longer for the dough to rise.
  • For a more decadent treat, add chopped nuts or chocolate chips to the filling.

Enjoy these delicious cinnamon rolls with a cup of coffee or tea!
