Salisbury Steak Garlic Mash Potatoes Mushroom & Onion gravy

Tips for Success

Use 80/20 ground beef for juicy patties. Don’t overmix the meat mixture. Let the gravy simmer for deep flavor and mash the potatoes while they’re hot for extra creaminess.

Ingredients

For the Salisbury steak:

1 lb ground beef

¼ cup breadcrumbs

1 egg

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

½ teaspoon garlic powder

½ teaspoon onion powder

Salt and pepper to taste

For the gravy:

1 tablespoon butter

1 tablespoon olive oil

1 small onion, thinly sliced

1 cup mushrooms, sliced

2 tablespoons flour

2 cups beef broth

Salt and pepper to taste

For the garlic mashed potatoes:

2 lbs russet potatoes, peeled and cubed

4 cloves garlic, peeled

4 tablespoons butter

½ cup whole milk or cream

Salt to taste

Directions

In a bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix just until combined, then shape into 4 oval patties. In a skillet over medium heat, cook patties for 4–5 minutes per side until browned and cooked through. Remove and set aside. In the same skillet, add butter and olive oil. Sauté onions and mushrooms until golden. Stir in flour and cook 1 minute. Slowly add beef broth, whisking until smooth. Simmer 5–7 minutes until thickened. Season to taste, then return patties to the pan and simmer in the gravy. For mashed potatoes, boil potatoes and garlic in salted water until tender, about 15 minutes. Drain, then mash with butter, milk, and salt until creamy.

Additional Tips or Variations

Add fresh herbs like thyme to the gravy for more depth. Use ground turkey or chicken for a lighter version. Swap the mashed potatoes for egg noodles or rice if desired.
