One of the great strengths of this recipe is how flexible it is. You can substitute smoked sausage, kielbasa, turkey sausage, or even andouille for a spicier kick. You can add garlic, bell peppers, mushrooms, or crushed red pepper for variation. You can keep the potatoes soft or cook them longer for more crispiness. This dish is delicious on its own, but it also pairs well with eggs for breakfast, salad for lunch, or warm bread for dinner.
It’s simple, filling, flavorful, and always satisfying — exactly what a good skillet meal should be.
