Tips for Success
Cook the sausage thoroughly and drain excess grease before mixing with cream cheese. Use room-temperature cream cheese for easier blending. Make sure the crescent roll dough is chilled so it’s easier to handle and lays flat in the pan. Seal the seams of the dough to prevent filling from leaking during baking.
Ingredients
1 pound ground breakfast sausage
1 (8 oz) package cream cheese, softened
2 (8 oz) cans refrigerated crescent roll dough
Directions
Preheat oven to 375°F. In a skillet over medium heat, cook sausage until browned and fully cooked. Drain excess grease. Add cream cheese to the skillet and stir until melted and well combined with the sausage. Unroll one can of crescent roll dough and press it into the bottom of a greased 9×13 inch baking dish, sealing seams. Spread the sausage and cream cheese mixture evenly over the dough. Unroll the second can of crescent rolls and place on top, sealing edges and seams. Bake for 20–25 minutes or until golden brown. Let cool slightly before slicing and serving.
Additional Tips or Variations
Add chopped green onions, diced jalapeños, or shredded cheddar to the sausage mixture for extra flavor. Use spicy sausage for a kick. For a smaller batch, cut the recipe in half and bake in an 8×8 dish. This casserole is also great served with scrambled eggs or fresh fruit on the side.
