Reviews about the recipe:

“This was excellent. I served it with ham, potato salad and black-eyed peas on New Year’s Day. I didn’t use all of the onion called for, nor did I use onion powder (didn’t have it). Like other reviewers, I cut the salt back (to 1tsp). Only a small dish left, and I intend to eat that as a snack later!”

Title: Savory Fried Cabbage Delight

Ingredients:

3 thick-cut strips of pork bacon
1 medium cabbage head, roughly chopped (approximately 3 lbs.)
1 medium onion, finely diced
1 medium red bell pepper, finely diced
1/3 cup water
1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
1 tablespoon hot sauce
Salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions:

Begin by heating a large non-stick skillet over medium heat. Add the pork bacon strips, diced bell pepper, and onion to the skillet. Sauté for about 7 minutes until the bacon is cooked and the vegetables are tender.
Incorporate the red pepper flakes, along with salt and pepper, into the skillet. Mix well to evenly distribute the seasonings.
Pour the water into the skillet and add the chopped cabbage. Stir the mixture occasionally, allowing it to cook for approximately 20-25 minutes until the water evaporates.*
Once the water has evaporated, continue to sauté the cabbage for an additional 10 minutes until it achieves a desirable texture and caramelization.
Remove the skillet from the heat and gently stir in the hot sauce until it is well incorporated.
Serve the delicious fried cabbage immediately and enjoy its flavorful goodness!
*Note: Cooking times may vary depending on the desired tenderness of the cabbage and the intensity of the heat. Adjust cooking times accordingly.
